Food Not Bombs is a protest as much as it is a mutual aid event. We are not a non-profit, we are not a charity. In today’s society charity and mutual aid are used synonymously, but not everything called mutual aid is actually mutual aid- its charity. In a charity setting one person gives, one person receives. The giver and receiver roles never reverse. In a mutual aid setting its reciprocal- who gives and receives shifts over time. Volunteering with Food Not Bombs is rooted in an actual ongoing community. Volunteers build shared infrastructure and collective capacity, we are neighbors taking care of neighbors. We are not interested in addressing a crisis without addressing why the crisis exists. We know why the crisis exists- mismanaging of funds by our government. Mutual aid treats the crisis as proof that the system is failing and we build power to change it.

Volunteering with Food Not Bombs is really what you make it. We are constantly bombarded with daily life and endless to do lists and its hard to get away. Food Not Bombs has several ways to get involved in your local community. Four days a week we protest by sharing food with our neighbors. We meet at 7pm at 500 McKinney on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday- rain or shine! Food share days looks different for everyone. From rescuing food destined for the landfill to preparing the food. We offer many ways to get involved! The best way to start is to show up to one of our food shares. You’ll meet like minded people and develop relationships that prove we’re stronger together.
We are always looking for volunteers to source food, prepare food, help out with storage, and much more. If you want to give back to our community and protest the gross misuse of our tax dollars, come hang out with us! When a billion people go hungry every day, how can we spend another dollar on war?
